Our First Blog Post

Ok so Mr Sawdust has been “blogging” for a while now so does have some experience, hopefully between us we will make for interesting reading!!

Firstly welcome to our new website, it’s taken a little longer than we would have liked to put together but here we are. Our initial thoughts were to have an online shop presence but to be honest things have moved so quickly for us and our little business that we’ve decided (over a glass of wine or two) to put our online shop on the back burner and make it our project for 2026.

Soooooo firstly a catch up and update as to what’s been happening to us this year, we’ll try and keep it short and succinct (no promises though)!!

We started the year looking at taking part in local craft fairs, something we were both totally unfamiliar with, our combined experience was a couple of local Christmas Fairs, when everybody’s in a festive mood and loves everything. And we are ending the year with our very own workshop/shop at Unit 5, Parc Glynllifon, Near Caernarfon (fabulous place to visit and have a look around the park).

Anyway in for a penny and all that, we signed up for ALL of Porthmadog Craft and Gift Fairs events at the Ganolfan in Porthmadog, which started off the new year in March 2024 and then monthly on the last Saturday of every month right up until November 30th and then a special 2 day Christmas event on 14 and 15 December. Thankfully, so far, it’s all worked out really well and we’ve enjoyed every minute, it’s been brilliant to meet people and get honest feedback on our products, and to see them returning to our little stall regularly, Also we can’t thank other stall holders enough for their help, encouragement, support and laughter.

As we grew in confidence, we started to actively look for other events and have event organisers approach us to take part in their events, (which has been a real booster). As a result of being involved with Porthmadog Craft and Gift Fair we got to visit Hafan y Mor, Pwllheli and also Haven Greenacres in Porthmadog.

One of the highlights so far this year has been The Aberdunant Hall, Summer and Christmas Fairs. The Summer fair was a  first for them it was brilliant, extremely well organised, great location, lovely stall holders and fabulous customers, so when we were invited to the Christmas Fair earlier this month there was no hesitation, again they didn’t disappoint, we had a great day and it was lovely to catch up with old friends and make new ones, the summer fair for next year is already booked into our diary!!

Highlight number two has to be the Glynllifon Craft and Food Fair, the biggest event for us this year, it was 2 days over weekend of 16th and 17th of November (unfortunately Mr Sawdust’s birthday was totally overshadowed by the event)!! Again, extremely well organised, we did have a couple of panic moments, firstly would we have enough stock (of course we did) and secondly would the internet let us down, (of course it didn’t), what an experience, a lot of hard work leading up to it and a really busy weekend but so worth it, we met so many people, stall holders as well as customers, and were so proud to say we are now a permanent fixture at Unit 5, in the courtyard at Parc Glyllifon, and would be open for business (our hours are updated and placed on the workshop/shop door and social media}. It was also lovely to meet new contacts and start making exciting plans for the future.

We have a couple of fairs left for this year, another new one for us is Christmas Market at Caernarfon Airport, on Sunday 24th November, with storm Bertie set to strike over the weekend it should be an interesting event.

We then have the three remaining Porthmadog Craft and Gift Fair events on 30th November and 14th and 15th December, we’ll let you know how they go.

As we build our website we’ll be including lots of useful (we think) information and links regarding, wood, wood products, wood care, wood mythology etc (basically all things wood)!!  Also Parc Glynllifon (and it’s history) and anything else we think may be of interest.

Of course we will make sure to keep everyone informed of our whereabouts on our “Events” page and what we’re up to in our blog.

Thanks for reading – we’ll be back!!

Spring is in the air

Well I really feel as if we're coming out of hibernation. After the crazy end to last year (all good of course) and the lovely long break...
